Dad wouldn’t want a typical obituary. In fact, he never read them. So, we’re going to dedicate this to our father and grandfather, Jim D. Bailey.
Jim married the love of his life, Myrna Rae McCumber on June 2, 1954. He was a proud father of six children although he had to recite them all by name to get to the one he was talking to at the time – Dovi (Rock) Mueller, Scott (Diane) Bailey, Steve (Joanne) Bailey, Brad (Deb) Bailey, Craig Bailey & Christy Bailey. He was especially proud of his grandchildren, all 14 of them (Jamie, Chris, Lindsay Jaron, RaeAnne, Kimberly, Carter, Michael, Matthew, Emilee, Carley, Jeff, Chris M., and Amy). He sang the praises of his grandchildren‘s accomplishments and efforts in everything they did to everyone he knew. While no longer the biggest fan in the stands, he will forever be cheering them on in spirit as they grow through life.
You could expect Jim to sport his red top hat & sweatshirt on Husker game days, rave about his favorite sports teams’ wins & foolish losses, & tell stories of his times on the railroad, at sea, & watching his kids grow up. When it came to music, he loved jazz; all of it. And even though he wouldn’t confess this to anyone but his family, he cut a mean rug when it came to dancing. Jim’s embrace and love were incomparable. He shared his heart in quiet ways, but the impact of his love to those close to him was loud and clear.
Jim was born on Oct. 9, 1933 to Dale Cook & Maude Ellen (Garner) Bailey in Valentine, NE. He was an accomplished Eagle Scout and proudly served in the Navy during the Korean war. Jim, Dad, Grandpa and Great-grandpa, you will forever be in our thoughts and with us in our daily activities. Thank you for all you’ve done for us. We love you-your family.
A Memorial Service will be Tuesday (10-25-16) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
No Visitation/Cremation.
