Obituary

Jean Louise Stading

August 12, 1944 - December 2, 2021

Jean Louise Stading, 77, a long-time resident of Lincoln, peacefully passed from this life on Thursday, December 2, 2021, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. A wonderful and joyful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Jean will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Life is eternal; and love is immortal; death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.

Rossiter Worthington Raymond

Jean, born August 12, 1944, in Lincoln, was one of three children born to Allie and O.A. Barber, Jr. A 1961 graduate of Lincoln Southeast High School, she went on to attend the University of Nebraska- Lincoln, earning a degree in Education. While attending UNL, Jean enjoyed being a member of the cheer squad and Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. It was during this time that she met and fell in love with Donald Stading. They were married in 1965, and over the next several years, they welcomed the births of 3 children: Rick, Jennifer, and Dave. During her life she spent years being a stay-at-home mom, a teacher at Westminster Preschool, and a teacher at Merle Beattie Elementary. She was a member of the Junior League of Lincoln and served on the KAO Rho Advisory Board and the Friends of Lied Board.

An avid Santa collector, and tremendous cook and baker, Jean was so full of life. She loved her husband, family, friends, and Husker football!! She also enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, dancing, and Jazzercize. She was happiest when she was surrounded by family, especially her children and grandchildren, and loved spending time with them. Many special memories were made with family at the lake. Jean was a joy to be around, often singing and being silly, especially during her absolute favorite time of year, Christmas!

Jean was preceded in death by her mother, Allie Barber, father, O.A. Barber, Jr., and brothers-in-law: Tom Olson, Ron Stading, Ken Stading and Jim Stading.

Jean is survived by husband, Don, children: Rick (Janet) of Austin, Texas; Jennifer Engle (Chad) of Lincoln; Dave (Korey) of Malvern, Iowa; sister, Cynthia; brother Rick; grandchildren: Greyson Engle, Miles Stading, Hayden Engle, Ingrid Stading, Enver Stading, Niklas Stading, and Isaac Engle; brother and sisters-in-law, Tycha, Berna, Bob, and Pat; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, December 7th 2:00 at Roper & Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive.

Don and family—our sincere sympathies to all of you in the loss of Jean. The past few years have been difficult, but your support of her never wavered. She was a wonderful person and a friend to many. She was always one of the “lights” at Ameritas functions and respected by everyone. May the good memories the two of you shared for so many years help support you during this difficult time. Our prayers are with you.
