Jayne Wade Anderson

January 11, 1930 - October 11, 2015

Jayne Wade Anderson, of Lincoln, peacefully journeyed to be with her husband, Bill in heaven at the age of 85. Born January 11, 1930 in Plainview, NE to Jay and Clara Wade. She was the oldest of two children which included Winston Jay Wade. Jayne lived her early years in Plainview, NE. Her father, Jay was the manager of a cooperative creamery.

She came to the University of Nebraska in 1946 and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She was elected Homecoming Queen in 1951. She was inducted into the National Honorary Society, Mortar Board. After graduation in 1952, Jayne moved to Auburn, NE and taught secondary education. She married Billy Gene Anderson and they moved to San Diego, CA and were there for three years while Bill was in the Navy. After Bill got out of the Navy he accepted a position with GE and was killed in an automobile accident in 1959. Laurie was 18 months old.

Jayne moved back to Lincoln and received her Master’s degree in Educational Psychology and Measurements in 1966. Dean Helen Snyder gave her an Assistantship and when she died Jayne was named Director of Greek Affairs and Cooperatives from 1978-1997. Jayne served as National President of Motar Board from 1976-1982, Alpha Xi Delta Vice President 1984 – 1988, Alpha Xi Delta President 1988 – 1993. She was awarded the 1991 Chancellor’s Award for Exemplary Service to Students. The Mortar Board started a scholarship in her honor at the UNL Foundation. The Jayne Wade Anderson Scholarship. Jayne’s relationship with Greek students continued long past graduation. Years later, alums still sought her advice. She retired in July of 1997 after more than 30 years.

She served as a mentor to many and eagerly awaited the news of their successes and families. Jayne was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was active in several community organizations. Jayne is preceded in death by her parents and husband Bill.

She is survived by her brother, Winston and her daughter, Laurie; her granddaughter, Katherine Elizabeth, and grandson, John Alexander.

We invite all of her friends to join us in the Celebration of Life at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday (10-14-15) First-Plymouth Chapel, 2000 ‘D’ Street. Please wear a splash of scarlet to celebrate Jayne’s love of the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

No Visitation/Cremation.
