Jay Scott Cook

Jay Scott Cook, 59, of Elmwood, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, July 30th, 2016.

What a beautiful view! The green trees and pastures sway slightly in the cooler than normal July breeze. The cornfields stand long and strong, preparing for harvest. The cattle graze peacefully around the homestead. This was Scott’s place, the home he built with the help of a long line of family and friends. In the last month, family and Madonna’s Rehabilitation staff worked tirelessly to get him out of the hospital to come home to his place, that encompasses his life’s passion inch by inch. And he made it! Scott’s life work was spent managing his beloved cattle, balancing life between planting season and harvest, continually keeping an ear on the markets and eyes on the rain-gauge, and manually protecting his fields from intruding thistles and weeds. The land provided a spiritual connection that filled him with purpose and love. It came with no surprise to those whom knew him best how hard and courageously Scott fought his aggressive brain cancer, diagnosed 17 months ago. He stood strong for his family and friends and continued to show love to his land until he was ready to peacefully pass. Scott was an admirable model of hard work and servitude.

He left these lessons with his surviving family including: his own model and mother, Audrey Cook, the love of his life and wife, Emilie Cook, his cherished children, who he protected beyond all else, Shayna and Jeremy Cook, his parents-in law, Leon and Janet Lamp, his brother-in-law, Jeff Lamp, and his nephews and their families, Kent and Russ Eikerman and Jordan Lamp. His partner in crime and father, Wendall Cook and his big sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Gene Eikerman were there to greet him with open arms as he transitioned to the heavens.

Please join us for a visitation at Waverly’s Roper and Sons, home of Scott’s alma mater, 10851 N. 148th Street, Waverly NE 68462 on Wednesday, August 3rd from 6-7:30. A memorial ceremony will be held at St. Mark’s Methodist Church on Thursday, August 4th at 11 am.

Memorials can be made in support of the Alvo/Eagle Rural Fire District, where Scott served as a board member.
