Obituary

Jaqueline S. Griswold

November 20, 1931 - April 9, 2025

Jaqueline S. Griswold (née Schneider), born on November 20, 1931, passed away on April 9, 2025, at the age of 93 after a brief illness. Though she is no longer with us, her memory endures—in the laughter she shared and the love she leaves behind with those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Jackie grew up in Fort Madison, Iowa, where she met her husband, Richard Griswold. Jackie and Richard both attended the University of Iowa and were life-long fans and supporters of their alma mater. She and Richard married in September 1951. Richard’s career took them to Nashville and Jackson, Michigan, and they later retired to Loudon, Tennessee. They shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and adventure until Richard’s death in 2002.

Jackie bought a home in Lincoln, Nebraska in 2005 to be near her sister, Sandra Wood. Jackie’s nieces and nephew in Lincoln enjoyed spending time with her, whether it was celebrating holidays, attending art events, or just lunching at local restaurants. She was known for her independent spirit. Jackie was a voracious reader, a world traveler, an accomplished painter, an avid gardener, and she loved playing cards with friends, doing puzzles, and just spending time with family.

Jackie is survived by her sisters-in-law Becky Boley, Linda Eldridge, and Jeanne Griswold, twenty-two nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of friends who will cherish her memory.

A private family service will be held to honor her life.

The family requests memorials be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org), one of the many charitable organizations she generously supported.

I was born the year Jackie graduated from high school. Growing up it was not Jackie, I knew her as Richard and Jackie. I remember them smiling and joking around when they came to visit. Now together again.

One time jackie’s sister sandy tried to teach me how to twirl the baton. Well, that didn’t last long. Jackie, we will miss you even though we were miles apart. I think Richard is waiting for you.
