Obituary

Jane Elizabeth Mulder

December 30, 1971 - June 13, 2025

Jane Elizabeth (Van Cleave) Mulder, 53, of Lincoln, NE passed away unexpectedly June 13, 2025.  Jane entered this world on December 30, 1971, in Lincoln, NE to James and Margaret (Finegan) Van Cleave.   Those lucky enough to know Jane witnessed her unwavering kindness, compassion, infectious positivity, and genuine care for all.

Jane spent most of her childhood in Blair and Omaha. Jane loved swimming, roller skating, riding bikes, and spending time with family. Her family moved to Lincoln, NE where Jane met Dan, her future husband, while she was attending Lincoln Southeast High School.  Jane and Dan began their journey through life together and were united in marriage on August 12, 1995, in Lincoln.  Jane earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and dedicated over 30 years to patient care, most recently with Nebraska Orthopedic Center.

Jane’s proudest accomplishments came with the birth of her daughters.  Lucy Jane and Annie Elizabeth were her heart and soul.  She never missed a soccer game, school event, or an opportunity to make sure her girls felt her love, kindness, encouragement, and compassion. Jane had a deep love for animals and was a devoted dog mom to Auggie, Bear, Penny, and Ted.  Jane cherished spending as much time as possible with her family, her dogs, and the “J.U.G’s”.   She had an infectious smile, she loved to read, loved life, and loved her family deeply.

Jane is survived by her husband Dan, daughters Lucy and Annie Mulder, all of Lincoln, NE; father James “Jim” Van Cleave of Blair, NE; brother John (Rachelle) Van Cleave of Eagle, NE; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret “Peg” Utemark, and grandparents, Dr. John C. and Thais Finegan, and Raymond and Agnes Van Cleave.

A celebration of Jane’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 8550 Pioneers Boulevard in Lincoln, NE.

Memorials to the family for designation at a later date.

I only worked with Jane for a very short time, but you didn’t have to work with her very long to feel what an amazing person she was. There aren’t enough words to describe her kindness, her consideration, and her compassion. She added sunshine to our workplace every day. I hope your memories will soon bring smiles instead of tears. I am deeply sorry for your loss.

I am just heart broken to see this news of Jane’s passing. I worked with Jane for many years when she would come out to the Seward Specialty Clinic & she was the sweetest, kindest, most positive person to be around ❤️ I have 3 daughters & we always shared experiences & Lucy & Annie were her life! Hang on to all your great memories 💜

I have known Jane and her family for over 60 years. Our families spent a lot of time together in Lincoln as well as Blair and Clarkson. We used to help my mom babysit the “cutest little girl ever”. Jane is a testimonial to the statement only the good die young. A beautiful angel taken from this earth way too soon. Fly high sweet Jane. You were loved and will be forever missed.

To Lucy, Annie and Dan: I grieve with you as I lost my mother when she was in her 50s and the loss is devastating. I am your neighbor, Cindy’s, daughter in law. Jane was so sweet and friendly. My daughter and I came by in December to sell cookie dough for a fundraiser and she jumped at the chance to support us even though she doesn’t know us. I am so sorry for your incredible loss.

My thoughts are with Jane’s family today. So sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She reminded so much of her beautiful mother. I feel privileged to have known them both.

Jane was an amazing team member. As many have commented she had such a sweet personality along with a passion for caring for patients and staff. I will miss her kind words of encouragement and her smile.

I was a good friend of Jane’s mom, Peg. The 3 of us went to Chicago to see an Impressionist art exhibit when Jane was maybe a sophomore in high school. She was so fun to share that experience with. She grew into a beautiful young woman, wife , mom and nurse. I loved her smile. Such a tragic loss for her family and those who knew and loved her.

She had a smile that would light a room. She rarely complained. She lifted everyone up around her. She was an incredible human being who treated everyone with kindness and respect. Oh how I love this woman! The last time I saw her she wrapped her arms around me and told me how proud of me she was and my heart is broken to see her life cut short.

Jane and I always talked about our families when we worked together. She absolutely swelled with pride every time she talked about Lucy and Annie. She would get giddy with excitement when she had plans to meet one or both of them for lunch. She was the biggest cheerleader for her family and friends. A selfless giver with the sweetest soul will be missed deeply.
