Obituary

James Tanner

April 14, 1941 - November 17, 2025

James Boyd Tanner, 84, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025. James accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and we rejoice knowing he is now present with the Lord.

James was born on April 14, 1941, to Elmer and Delma (Houser) Tanner, and grew up with his siblings Donald and Sharon. He is now reunited with his son, Charles Joseph Tanner, and his brother, Donald Tanner, who preceded him in death, along with his parents.

James is survived by his devoted wife, Renee Tanner, who lovingly cared for him through his later years with dementia; his daughters, Sherri Tanner Ricardes, and her husband, Robert, and Amy Webb, and her husband, Richard; his sister, Sharon Rowse, and her husband, Gail; and many nieces and nephews who cherished him.

James proudly worked for UniService for more than 30 years, where he built lifelong friendships and was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. After retirement, he continued to stay active by working part-time at the Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Active and athletic throughout his life, James was a talented roller skater and performed in a roller-skating dance group that entertained audiences with choreographed routines. He earned numerous trophies in shuffleboard, pool, bowling, golf, and other recreational sports, winning competitions throughout Nebraska and Reno, Nevada, including participation in the Cornhusker State Games.

James also loved gardening, spending time outdoors, and watching things grow. He assisted his father in operating the family business, Pre-Cast Step Company, and carried the values of hard work and craftsmanship throughout his life.

He was gifted musically and enjoyed singing and sharing his talent at several nursing homes using his karaoke equipment, bringing music, smiles, and joy to others.
James will be remembered for his strength, humor, kindness, faith, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in all who knew him.

At this time, no services will be held, and the family asks that in his memory you take a moment to enjoy music, laughter, and time with loved ones.

He will be deeply missed.
“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
2 Corinthians 5:8
