James O. Monroe, 68, of Hickman passed away May 12, 2023, in Lincoln. Born December 2, 1954, in Lincoln, NE to Orville and Elaine (Harms) Monroe.

James graduated from Adams High School (1973). He married Brenda Weber on June 13, 1975, was married 47 years, and had two children, Justin and Jennifer.

James worked for Farmland Foods/Smithfield for 40+ years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and watching TV, including westerns and WWE. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Family members include his wife, Brenda; daughter, Jennifer (Patrick) Bryan; son, Justin (Jaimie) Monroe; grandchildren, Marissa, Makenzie, and Madelyn Monroe, Cohen and future baby Bryan; brothers, Michael and Steven Monroe; bother-in-law Bruce (Beth) Weber and sister-in-law Mick McBride; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Elaine Monroe, Father and Mother-in-law Ervin and Betty Weber, and brother-in-law Roger Weber.

A celebration of life service will be Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 4:00 pm, Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive.

Memorials to Southwood Lutheran Church or to the family for further designation.

I worked with James at Farmland/Smithfield Foods For many years he was a great guy and he will be missed I can remember on his break he would go to the cafeteria in a hurry just to play cards he would. Have you laughing, also giving you a hard time all in fun though I couldn’t believe it when I heard I am so sorry praying for the family you have my deepest sympathy

It was a true shock, as I saw him in the hospital just a week ago. He will be greatly missed, as Jim and I hunted together for 18-years and we shared many memories. Jim was a true friend and he never missed calling me on the my birthday, and I will miss those calls and the many stories we shared.

Not a lot of guys would welcome 7/8 yr olds hunting with them but Jim, his cousin Lennie and Andy Lundy welcomed my sons practically every Sunday of bird season to walk the fields of SE Nebraska. I was the only one without a dog. I remember the small spiral notebook with the list of landowners and property where we could hunt. We laughed, told lies, and made memories I’ll never forget. My oldest son caught the bug, has bird dogs, and drives from CO to day hunt in western NE and KS. Jim called us almost every birthday since we quit hunting some 25 yrs ago. He was proud of his family and real, what-you-is-what-you-get person. Thanks Jim! And peace to you!

James always had a joke to tell and was always giving you a hard time. He was always a happy soul. My husband and I worked with him for years and years at Farmland until we moved to Arizona. He was loved and appreciated by all of us!

So sorry to James Monroe family for your loss! James and I worked together at Farmland/Smithfield for all of those years until I retired in 2016! If you needed a laugh, James could always find something to talk about, whether hunting or fishing!
