Obituary

James Nagel

August 3, 1944 - July 22, 2025

James D. Nagel, 80 of Raymond, NE passed away July 22, 2025.  Born August 3rd 1944, in Lincoln Ne to Alexander and Hildegard (Becker) Nagel.  He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran church in Davey, NE.

James developed his love for farming throughout his whole life.  Even when he was nearing his end a Doctor asked what his goals were.  “I want to get back to the farm”.  It was on that farm he once grew cattle with his father, and crops like alfalfa and grain sorghum, now corn and soybeans.  Jim spent lots of summers back then with nephews and their friends putting hay up in barns and sheds, walking beans and milo.  Jim spent lots of time with his brother, Jack, and we will miss the times Jim “popped” in at about supper time just to say hi.

Jim’s love for Chevelles expanded into restoring them.    It was a challenge for Jim, and he made many friends in the car community.

Family members include his brother Jack (Sharron) Nagel, Davey; Nephews Paul, Doug (Lexie), Michael (Tara).  Great Nieces and Nephews Carsen, Hayden, Madysn and Reid Nagel.  Several cousins.  Preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service: 11:00 am Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Roper and Sons Midtown Chapel, 4300 O Street. Inurnment in Tothill Cemetery, Davey, NE.

This is random but several years ago I was coming back from my family’s farm and I ended up having a car accident in the ditch in front of his home taking out his mail box. I had hit my head and was scared and confused. I kept apologizing for his mail box and promised him I would pay for a new one he kept comforting me and telling me not to worry ad he waiting for the ambulance to come and cut me out of my car. I was terrified and so upset as I just bought that car a month earlier. He stayed calm and talked me through it. I later found out that he gave my dad a job when he had graduated high school and married my mom. He was such a blessing at a time I was so terrified and alone. I will never forget what he did for me and his kindness as I was stuck in that suv.

Just wanted to express my condolences to the Nagel family. A good family that I had the pleasure of working with over the years. God Bless.

Jim hauling alfalfa bales, over the cab, under the trailer, all over the place and scale boys pulling him over taking pictures, but unable to find anything wrong. Jim’s intelligence and work ethic second to none. RIP my friend
