Jalaine Ackerman-Schrage

October 31, 1949 - February 1, 2023

Jalaine Ackerman-Schrage, 73, of Lincoln passed away February 1, 2023. She was born on October 31, 1949, in Elgin, NE one of three children of Joseph and Dorothy (McBride) Ackerman.

She grew up on the family farm and went to Petersburg High School and graduated in 1968. It was there she met her high school sweetheart Calvin, and the couple was united in marriage August 7, 1971. A few years later, the two of them moved to Lincoln, NE for Calvin’s job. Their union was blessed with four children: Brian, Aaron, Jackie, and Scott. Jalaine started an in-home daycare to stay home with their children while helping to support the family. Jalaine loved her kids, her daycare kids, the neighbors, their children (and their children) …it didn’t matter who, she loved to care for others. The neighborhood kids would always end up at Jalaine’s home as she always had all the goodies. She enjoyed the countless hours spent with her friend Vickie planning the Dawes PTA as they planned the FUN NIGHTS for the youth. Which were often quoted as “the best nights ever.”

After the four children grew older, Jalaine went back to school at SCC and took floral arranging classes to become a floral designer. She did amazing work and truly loved her job. Her work was breathtaking. She loved flowers and it was evident in her work that she enjoyed every minute of it.

Becoming a grandma meant the world to her, she adored her grandkids. Her face lit up every time she saw them or even talked about them.

We can’t forget about the Husker tailgating; she would not miss that for anything. She would talk about them all the time and her family knew not to mess with her plans. She loved them so much and enjoyed sharing these moments with her family and friends. She was the most loving, kindest, and sincere person you could ever meet. She always found the good in everyone and will be truly missed by all.

She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Dorothy Ackerman, brother Richard Ackerman, father-in-law Ray Schrage as well as her dogs Rocky and Peanut.

Loved ones who will miss Jalaine until they meet again are her husband of 51 years, Calvin; children Jackie and Travis Goracke of Tecumseh; Brian and Jennifer Schrage of Ceresco, Aaron Schrage of Missouri, Scott and Michele Walker of Minnesota; grandchildren; Tyler, Cole, Trevor, Gwendalyn, Austin, and Maxwell; sister Betty and Doug Vest of Omaha; brother in law Tim and Karen Schrage of Omaha; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends whom she called family.

Jalaine was one of the best people ever!!! When Dawes was an elementary school, Jalaine was one of the first to step up and support her children, the school, the staff and the neighborhood! It was wonderful to know her and to work with her and her family. I am so sorry for this loss.
