Irma Jane Alcorn, 89, of Lincoln, widow of Dewaine Alcorn, died on November 29, 2020.
Irma was born on June 28, 1931, in Ravenna, Nebraska, to Fred and Christine (Holub) Novy. Irma received a BFA degree from Kearney State College (now UNK). Irma and Dewaine were married in Ravenna, Nebr., in 1954, after Dewaine returned from the Korean War.
She taught band, vocal and piano, instilling the love of music in many. Irma was a member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church; and past member of Nebraska, Lincoln and National Music Teacher Associations, and Faculty Women’s Club. She dearly loved her bridge friends.
Irma and Dewaine were members of the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church choir and brass ensemble. They enjoyed picking up the instruments of their youth (Irma’s trombone and Dewaine’s tuba), again, to play in a few ensembles in their retirement years. They were season ticket holders to musical arts events throughout their lives.
She played music at nursing homes and sometimes brought her beloved dog, Anni, to soothe and entertain. Irma occasionally played the accordion over the years, beginning at a young age, playing in dance bands as a young woman. She often did volunteer work in the Lincoln community.
Irma and Dewaine loved to travel in the United States and internationally. Irma and Dewaine celebrated 65 years of marriage before Dewaine died earlier this year.
She is survived by daughters, Lorie (James) Dennell, Omaha, Nebr., Lynette
Alcorn and son-in-law Chris McCubbin, Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Molly Dennell, Amanda (Jason) Hoesing, Kady, Jamie and Sean Dennell; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Norah Hoesing; nieces and nephews, Cheryl Hopson, Ken Irwin, Karen Braymen, Gayle Bonnes, David Novy, and their children; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Novy, Grand Island, Nebr. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Lyman Novy.
