Irene C. Nord, 92, Lincoln, died Sunday (3-9-08) after a courageous three year battle with melanoma. Born Valparaiso, NE (1-8-1916) to Nels and Esther (Olson) Nord. Left high school to work as a maid for Dr. Floyd Rogers. During WWII worked as an inspector for the Eastic Stop Nut Company, then returned to work as a med tech for Drs. Covey and Rogers. Ret. after 32 years as a lab and x-ray technician for Drs. Brolsma and Williams. Member: Calvary United Methodist Church; Norden Club; Christian Business and Professional Womens Club; N.E.A. (National Association of Evangelicals). Volunteered at Lincoln General Hospital Auxiliary (BryanLGH West); Lincoln Area Agency on Aging (22 years); FoodNet; Prescott School reading to third graders; Lincoln Symphony; and Lied Center. Chosen as County/City Volunteer of the Month for June, 1992.
Family members include: brother, sister-in-law: Ivan & Irma Nord; sister, brother-in-law: Ruth & Clarence Christensen, all of Valparaiso; sister-in-law: Margaret Nord, Lincoln; nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by parents, one brother.
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (3-12-08) Calvary United Methodist Church,
1610 South 11th Street. Rev. Bill Hunter officiating. 4:00 p.m. graveside – Valparaiso Cemetery.
At Irene’s request her casket will be closed, however, there will be memorabilia items, registration book and pictorial video available for viewing beginning 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Roper & Sons, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
