Born Inez Lucille Heaney on October 24, 1915 to Mary and Frank Heaney in Beatrice, Nebraska. After graduating from Beatrice High School, Inez attended the University of Nebraska ( ’37) where she majored in music. While there she joined Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and Sigma Alpha Iota music sorority. She went on to become the Director of Music at Waverly High School in Waverly, Nebraska. There she directed the various choral groups to much success, winning numerous competitions.
While at UN she met a fellow student, Curtis Walter Gettman. They were married on March 31, 1944 in Post Chapel, Foster Field, Victoria, Texas, where Curt was stationed as a Lieut. in the Air Force.
Inez and Curt returned to Lincoln and had two daughters, Roxi and Marcia. The family moved to Billings, Montana in 1954. While in Billings, Inez earned a Master of Science Degree from the University of Montana. She utilized her background in music as a therapeutic tool in her major of Special Education. The family moved again in 1965 to Sacramento, California, where Inez taught until retirement (1982) at Sam Brannon Junior High School in the Sacramento Unified School District.
Most recently she has been living in Menlo Park, California, near her family. She is survived by her daughters Roxi Sater, of San Lorenzo, CA., and Marcia Krueger and son-in-law Mark Krueger of Los Altos Hills, CA. She is also survived by her three granddaughters Megan Sater, Kelly Krueger and Kimberly Krueger. She is to be buried next to Curt in the Wyuka Cemetary in Lincoln, Nebraska.
