My name is Hubert Romans. I was born in West Plains, Missouri, weighing in at 14 lbs. 13 oz. I was one of nine children born to William Clinton and Lola Alyce (House) Romans. My parents, five brothers: Harold, Ralph, Johnny, Arthur, Freddy, one sister, June, and one granddaughter, Angel Friend went home to be with Jesus before me.
School attendance was something I didn’t get much of, and in the 4th grade I left school to work in the family sawmill. I left Missouri when I was 13 and ended up in Norfolk, Nebraska, where I eventually met the love of my life, Lois Jean Nelson. We were married June 9, 1949, and three daughters were born to this union: Carol Jo Kohles (Larry), Roxie Alyce Friend (Gary) and Rebecca Sue Stech (Glenn).
Jean went on to be with the Lord on July 19, 1978. I then met Beverly Ann Deal, and married her September 8, 1979. I was further blessed in our raising of three more children: Vicki Bergman (Ken), Jimmy Deal (Jennifer), and Bobby Deal. I have been blessed with thirty three grandchildren, and twenty seven great grandchildren.
I took care of my family by way of being a fireman and ambulance driver on the Norfolk, Nebraska Fire Department for 15 years and later as a Kirby vacuum distributor in Franklin, Indiana. I have also been a carpenter, mechanic, cabinet maker, and heavy road equipment operator. I worked at the Fort Wayne, Indiana Children’s Home for about five years as a houseparent.
One of my favorite pastimes was fishing in Canada and on the ocean with my sons, sons-in-law and grandchildren. In 1973 the greatest adventure happened. I met my Lord Jesus Christ and became a born again Christian. He has been my closest friend for thirty five years. On January 8, 2008, he welcomed me into his eternal home to live with him. I know my family and friends will miss me, but I am eagerly waiting for them to come and join Jesus and me here in heaven.
