Helen Dot “Mike” (Newcomer) Holmes, 84, Lincoln, died Sunday (9-26-10). Born (1-26-26) in Whitehall, WI to Guy V. and Helen J. (Hoyt) Newcomer. Educator, Lincoln Public Schools and Arkansas Dept. of Education. Active in SAGE UNL Continuing Education; Gere Library teacher summer-reading program; Friends of Pioneers Park Nature Center; volunteer for toy and food program of the Salvation Army; former Lincoln Area Retired Teachers Association Board Member; Unitarian Church; Wooden Spoon; Alpha Xi Delta and UNL alumna; Cornhusker Doll Club; Lincoln Community Playhouse Guild Board; numerous community organizations.
Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Roger Holmes and Margaret Odgers; daughter and son-in-law, Candace Holmes and Floyd Doughty; three grandchildren, Joseph, Zoe, and Benjamin Holmes, all of Lincoln. Preceded in death by parents, husband Ralf F. Holmes.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday (10-9-10) Unitarian Church, 6300 ‘A’ Street.
