Harry Paul Seward, Jr.

August 30, 1917 - September 10, 2012

Harry Paul Seward, Jr., 95, of Lincoln, passed peacefully with family members by his side on Monday, September 10, 2012.

Born August 30, 1917 in Hardin, Missouri to Harry Paul and Sophia (Park) Seward, Harry attended the University of Missouri where he met Frances Ann, wife of 71 years. After serving during WWII as a Major in the US Army, Pacific Front, Harry and Franny made Lincoln their home, and these Missouri Tigers proudly wore Husker Red.

Harry led a productive life, and always enjoyed his work. He worked at Banker’s Life Nebraska (Ameritas) and rose to the level of CEO/chairman of the board before retiring in 1982. He exchanged a boardroom, for a workshop where he would spend countless hours woodworking. Harry built many boats, including a canoe and sailboats which are still being enjoyed today at the family cabin on Ten Mile Lake.

His family will remember him as being incredibly patient, kindhearted, a loving husband and father, involved Grandfather, and loyal friend. Harry personified what it meant to represent the Greatest Generation.

Accomplishments: WWII U. S. Army Veteran. CEO/Chairman of Banker’s Life (Ameritas) for 42 years retiring in 1982. Member of  Westminster Presbyterian Church, Westminster Foundation, Lincoln Lodge #19, A.F. & A.M., Sesostris Temple of the Shrine, Jesters, Green Fez, Nebraska Art Association, Mid-America Art Association, past President of Lincoln Community Foundation, Lincoln Country Club, Lincoln and Nebraska Chamber of Commerce, Business Hall of Fame Award, Round Table, University of Missouri Alumni Association, Faculty Award for Outstanding Achievement from University of Missouri, Honorary Doctorate of Law from Nebraska Wesleyan University and Eagle Scout.

Family members include his wife Frances; son: Harry Paul (Judy) Seward III, Lincoln; daughter: Anne Cordell Crosby, New Hope, PA; grandchildren, spouses:  Andrew (Emily) Seward, Elk River, MN, Laurie (Kraig) Lofquist, Hastings; great grandchildren: Olivia, Abigail, Noah Seward, Alexis and Brooke Lofquist.  Preceded in death by parents, sister Margerie Hubbell, sister-in-law Harriet Robnett.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2012 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd. with Rev. Dr. Andrew McDonald officiating. Prior private interment.

Memorials to the University of Nebraska Foundation, Westminster Presbyterian Church or Tabitha Foundation for the Green House. No Visitation
