Harold Dean “Bud” Robertson

June 20, 1929 - September 28, 2012

Harold Dean “Bud” Robertson was born to Frank and Lilac Busey Robertson June 20, 1929 in Beatrice, Nebraska and died September 28, 2012 at his home in Lecanto, Florida.

He was an Eagle Scout and inspired two sons and two grandsons to become Eagle Scouts.  After graduating from Beatrice High School, he volunteered for the United States Marine Corps, was stationed in San Diego, CA, played football for the Marine Corp, was a Drill Instructors and later served in the Reserves.  He graduated in 1954 from University of Nebraska with a degree in Architectural Engineering and he played defensive end for the football team.

In 1951 he married Jacqueline Thomas.  Their three children, Scott, Sue and Sandy were born in Lincoln.  He worked for Olson Construction Company as an estimator and field engineer. When their children were seven, five and two, the family moved to Beatrice where he Bud joined his father and brother in Robertson Construction Company: two noteable projects included the court house and bank building on the main streets of Beatrice.  Later he was part owner of  C and R Engineering.  He belonged to Centenary United Methodist Church, served on the Draft Board, earned his private pilot’s license, and was involved in other family and community activities.

In 1970, he enrolled in the Law College at UNL, commuted to Lincoln for classes, graduated and passed the bar exam.  He worked at State Federal in Beatrice as it General Counsel, and later with Leo Daley Engineering Company, before becoming a professor in the Construction Management Department of the College of Engineering at UNL where his specialty was construction law.  Bud was an active member of Trinity United Methodist  Church, served as Chair of the Lincoln Electric System for three terms, volunteered at the VA Hospital and continued his interest in sports, especially golf.  He remained a “Go Big Red” fan and enjoyed travel and activities with family and friends.  He and Jackie decided to go on an adventure away from home at 75 years of age and moved to a golf community in mid-west Florida in 2005, where he enjoyed playing golf often and he parred the last hole he played. They enjoyed numerous visits from friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.  Survivors are his wife of 61 plus years, family members Scott and Sally (CO), J. Sue and Mitch Dodd (TX), Sandy and Janet  (FL);   grandchildren/adults T. Scott, Timothy and Katie , Elizabeth and Nathaniel Starkey; Caitlin and Kendall Robertson; step grandchildren/adults: Autumn, Greer, and Chase and Florencia Dodd;   great grandchildren,   Dalton  and  Wesley Robertson and Lucia Dodd; his brothers Bob, and  Bill and wife Maxine.  He remained close with all family including many loving nieces and nephews and friends who feel like family.

Services:  October 13th at 1:30 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Lincoln, NE.
