Georganne B. Hyde, 66, Lincoln, passed away Sunday (10/11/2009). Born (11/22/1942) in Lincoln, Nebraska. Georgie to her fellow teachers. She was a full time teacher for Lincoln Public schools from 1965 to 1970 and substitute teacher from 1997 to 2009. She grew up in Lincoln attending Lefler Junior High. She was in the first class to go all the way through Lincoln Southeast where she participated in the Girls’ Glee Club, Knightettes Pep Club, Advanced Choir, Thalians and Thespians (theater group), and was a member of the National Honor Society.
She attended Nebraska Wesleyan and earned a degree in Education. Regents Work Scholarship, Taylor Educational Scholarship.
Member of 1st Plymouth Congregational Church 58-61 as a Sunday school teacher. She sang in the choir and played the White Chapel bells. International Order of Jobs Daughters Bethel 45 honored Queen 1954-61. Ritual Advisor to Delta Zeta, Beta Tau Chapter, 61-65 and recipient of the Outstanding Service Award.. Treasure, Lincoln Education Association 65-70. New Cumberland Officers Wives Club Treasure 70-71, Program Chairman 71-72, Bookkeeper Thrift Shop 72, nominated as the Outstanding Young Woman 72.
Ft Gordon Officers Wives Club Thrift Shop treasure and Red Cross Volunteer at the Ft Gordon Child Daycare. She helped reorganize the day care operations.
Co-Owner of Sunshine Children’s Center in Wichita Falls, Tx: 1980 -87. Owner of Georgie’s Place Day Care 1988-1997. Texas Certified Day Care Director. First Methodist Church Wichita Falls Children’s Church – Recipient of the Mary Bijack Award for teaching excellence for years of outstanding Sunday school and during church child leader; and backstage manager for the FUMC Summer Youth Musicals for 8 years.
Assistant Leader for Girl Scout Troop, Service Unit Director (SU30), Twilight Camp Director for 9 years. Recipient of the Jack and Edith Eckard award for Service to the Girl Scouts. Nationally she received the Juliette Gorden Lowe Award for outstanding volunteer. Editor and Contributor to Subways, a LPS publication for Substitute Teachers. Mentor and CoHort leader for other substitute Teachers
Survived by husband Dean E. Hyde, mother: Margaret Nord of Lincoln, son Brian Hyde (wife Cathy Lockwood) of Dillon Co, daughter Deanne L. Hyde of Lincoln, NE. Grandchildren are Kieran Mannion, Sophia Mannion of Lincoln. Nieces Brenda Titus, Anna Rasmussen, Sarah Hyde, Sara Nord, and Erica Nord. Nephews, Brent and Scott Wilson and David Nord, aunts, uncles and cousins and other special friends Aaron, Kathryn, and Christopher Boilesen. Preceded in death by father Carl Nord and parents-in-law Mason and Effie Hyde of North Platte.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday (10-17-09) First-Plymouth Congregational Church, 2000 ‘D’ Street. Dr. Jim Keck and Rev. Barb Smisek officiating.
