Gary R. Greene, 80, of Lincoln, passed away October 19, 2015. Born December 3, 1934 in Abilene, Kansas to Ogden W. and Lois (Russell) Greene. Graduate of LHS ’53 and UNL. Gary was a US Army veteran, Staff Sergeant, 501st Airborne Infantry Combat group assigned to NATO’s world-wide Strategic Strike Force, based at Fort Campbell, KY.
Later assigned as a Platoon Sergeant to the Army’s Infantry Training Center at Fort Jackson, SC. Director of Institutional Giving Director of Placement, and Debate Coach, Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA. Memberships include Heritage Presbyterian Church, DAV, 82nd Airborne, American Legion, Printing House Craftsman’s Guild, Commissioner of BSA Thunderbird District (5 yrs), Scout Master NE and PA, BSA Silver Beaver Award, District Award of Merit (NE), Chairman of the Republican Party Arlington County, VA (4 yrs), past member Optimists Club (PA).
Survived by his wife, LaVonn C. DeBus; stepsons, Devon Schumacher, Jeff (Julie) Schumacher, step-grandchildren, Alexander and Amanda Schumacher, all of Lincoln; sister, Gretchen (Bill) Baldwin, Warsaw, IN; sisters-in-law, Linda Greene, Beggs, OK, Jonece (Len) Yakus, Omaha; nieces, Kathy Stumbaugh, Dothan, AL, Dannielle Bowman, Noblesville, IN, Linda Schmidtt, Eugene, OR and Shannon Doyle, Warsaw, IN; nephews, Jeff Greene, Madison, WI, Mike Greene, Florissant, MO, Chris Greene, Lawrence, KS, Joe Doyle, Portage, IN, Patrick Doyle, Noblesville, IN, Brent (Amber) Schulz, Omaha; 13 great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents and brother, George G. Greene II.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday (10-26-15) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street with Rev. Dr. Ray Meester officiating. Interment in Lincoln Memorial Park.
