Gary Aksamit, 73, Lincoln, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2011. He was born in Lincoln, NE on July 2, 1938 to Leonard and Anna (Zajicek) Aksamit. A wonderful father and friend he will be greatly missed.
Gary graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1960. After college, he attended the University Of Wyoming College Of Law, graduated in 1964 and moved to Lincoln, NE. He worked as a Trust Officer for the National Bank of Commerce before going into private practice. In 1998 he joined the firm of Pierson-Fitchett-Hunzeker, Blake & Katt where he continued the practice of law until his retirement in 2007. Gary loved golf, husker athletics, and spending time with his family and friends. His family is so grateful for the wonderful care he received at the Monarch and Saint Elizabeth Hospice over the last several months. His care-givers will always be our heroes.
Gary is survived by his daughter Julie Aksamit, son, David and daughter-in-law April Aksamit, granddaughter Cayden Aksamit, step grandchildren Bailey and Bradley Kellner, niece Sheila Thomas and nephews Mark and Doug Bollish.
Celebration of Life will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at First Plymouth Congregational Church, 2000 D Street, Lincoln.
No visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the “Gary Aksamit Memorial” at Union Bank, 4243 Pioneer Woods Dr. P.0. Box 82535, Lincoln, NE, 68501. Memorials will be used to establish a Southeast Community College nursing scholarship in Gary’s name.
