Fred B. Holbert, 77, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019. Born August 11, 1941 in Kankakee, IL to Robert and Svea (Johnson) Holbert. Formerly of Elburn, IL, he resided in Lincoln since 1975. His career included positions with First National Bank, Stephens and Smith, and the meat department at Hy-Vee, where he was well-loved by pre-schoolers who called him Cookie Monster. Fred’s lifelong interests were golf, fishing, rock-hounding, music, gourmet cooking, reading, learning, and humor that would always evoke a grin. His beautiful tenor will live long in the memories of loved ones.
He is preceded in death by sister Kathleen (Holbert) Whildin. He is survived by wife Gloria of 57 years; son Kent of Indianapolis, IN; daughter Jill of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren Taylor McCarthy and Cedar McCarthy, and great granddaughter Willow Froehlich of Santa Fe, NM; brother-in-law Everett Whildin of Sugar Grove, IL; sisters-in-law Suzanne Peterson (Robert) and Kathleen Neely (Mark) of Batavia, IL; and
many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be held at a later date.
