Eugenio “Gene” S. Acosta, 77, of Lincoln, passed away December 8, 2014. Born August 8, 1937 in Xilitla, San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Eugenio and Genoveva Sanchez Landaverde De Acosta.
A U. S. Air Force Veteran, Gene (or ‘Geno,’ as some friends called him) was a championship boxer for the Air Force. After his service, he made Lincoln home. Gene was the Chief Staff Artist for the State of Nebraska. His artistry is reflected in various state documents, while one of his murals is on permanent display at the Nebraska Department of Roads building. A Former member of Christ Unity Church, Gene was an avid golfer, a talented cook, and a gifted storyteller.
Surviving family members include his sister, Josie Garivay, Lincoln; his lifetime partner, Anna Hopkins, Lincoln; daughters, Belinda G. Acosta, Lincoln, Melissa (David) Womack, Allen, TX; sons, Leroy Acosta, Bonita, CA, Corey Miller, New Orleans, LA, Kelly Miller, Crete, NE; adopted children, Joseph Acosta Hopkins and Maria Acosta Hopkins, both of Lincoln; step-children and many grandchildren and many more nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; siblings, Agustin, Luis, Socorro, Carmela, Rafael and Micaela.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday (12-15-14) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
Visitation: 3-8 p.m. Sunday with family greeting friends from 4-6 p.m. at Roper and Sons.
