Erma Jean (Brown) Stillman

Erma Jean (Brown) Stillman was called home 8/31/2016 surrounded by loved ones. Born to Bertha L & Herman B Brown in St. Joseph, MO. Erma attended elementary school in Doniphan KS and Highland Ks. She attended High school on the reservation in White Cloud, KS. Erma married Louis (Chick) Stillman at an early age and from this union three children were born. Thelma Louise Moore, Lincoln, NE, Robert L. Stillman, Sacramento, CA, and Winifred Powell, Woodbridge, VA.

Her calling was that of a caregiver as she loved to help those in need. She was a Doctors assistant at the K.U. Sigma NU Fraternity where she was House Mother before their closing. She graduated nurses training service in Topeka, KS and taught survival life skills classes to patients at Menninger State Hospital on Ward H for 19 years and retired in 1973.
While living in Lawrence she was a member of First Regular Missionary Baptist Church. She was also an active member in the community: For example, she participated in the 1965 Civil Rights March held in Lawrence, KS in support of equality after the slaying of Dr. James Rud in Selma AL.

Her Hobby was cooking, backing & going to garage sales. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

She is survived by 3 children Thelma Louise Moore, Robert Stillman, and Winifred Powell; 7 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
