Ed was an avid gardener and reader, a civil war buff, and volunteer at the community playhouse. He had a great love for music, doing public announcing for various high school sporting events, and refinishing furniture. He was a passionate sports fan. He was a diehard Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Celtics and Green Packers fan and of any Nebraska related sports. Ed worked for 37 years as a high school teacher at Valentine High, Fremont High, and Lincoln East High and was known for his energetic style and for being demanding but fair.
He was a devoted husband to his wife, Lois Kemble, for 62 years and a loving father to his children, Lisa Sheppard (Jeff), Nile Kemble (Annette) and Lora Higgins (Mark). He also cherished being a grandfather to his grandchildren, Jessica Aversman (Blake) Alex Sheppard, Colin Kemble (Allison) Ryne Higgins (Bailey) Tyler Kemble, Max Lyrata (Sarah), Caroline Johnson (Blake) and Hannah Sheppard. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois Kemble. He is survived by his 6 children, 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and two brothers and sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. November 7, 2025. The funeral service will be held at Roper and Sons South on November 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to Lincoln Public Schools and Lyons (Nebraska) Public Library. He will be deeply missed and his memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
