Edward John Kinbacher, 83, Lincoln, passed away Monday (8/01/11) at Lancaster Manor. Born November 19, 1927 to Michael and Louise (Schell) Kinbacher in Brooklyn, NY. Ed graduated from Cornell with a degree in Animal Husbandry, then received his Masters at Purdue University and his Ph.D. in Range Land Management from the University of California-Davis. He married Barbara Roy on 8/20/55 in Davis, CA and they moved to Ithaca, NY where Ed worked for the USDA at Cornell. Ed and Barbara settled in Lincoln in 1963 where Ed began his career teaching and performing plant research at the University of Nebraska. The couple was married for 47 years before Barbara’s passing in 2002.
Personally, Ed was a devoted husband to his wife, Barbara, a dedicated father to his three children, a leader most of his life in his church, dog lover, and a life-long baseball fan. Professionally, he was an able scientist who drew his greatest satisfaction from teaching and mentoring. He maintained many long-term relationships with his former graduate students, members of his staff, and his colleagues.
Ed is survived by his daughter Kye Halsted, Lincoln, son Kurt of Spokane, Washington, daughter Kris and husband Christopher Gearhart of Plattsmouth; grandsons Nick Halsted and wife Lisa of Lincoln, Arron Halsted of Lincoln and Michael Gearhart of Plattsmouth; and sister Edith Kinbacher of Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara.
Memorial Service: 4:00 p.m. Tuesday (08/16/11) Roper and Sons, 4300 O Street, Lincoln. Cremation, no visitation.
