Obituary

Duane Henry Eichorn

November 12, 1938 - June 5, 2025

Duane Henry Eichorn, 86, of Lincoln passed away June 5, 2025. Born November 12, 1938, in Brush, CO to Henry and Leah (Herberlein) Eichorn.

Duane served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He attended Nebraska Wesleyan University, and married Anne Leigh Coffey on November 18, 1966, in Lincoln, she pre-deceased him in 2019.

Duane retired in 2001, after 38 years as a mail carrier. He was a member of the American Legion Post #3.

Duane volunteered as a coach and referee for youth sports for over 20 years. He also was a hospitality greeter at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.

Duane played fast pitch for Kings/Falstaff and The Steakhouse which both teams were power houses in fast pitch softball. There is great memory of Dad by Doug introducing home run derby in the backyard: “It was me and him versus Dan and my mother. Lastly I just remember even being older he would come out to the park with both boys and or friends and play sports with us. He would come join the game and it was amazing seeing him play sports with young kids and still compete against me and my friends would talk about how good my dad was.” There’s also the saying of horn, horn, the magical horn, from friends like Jerry Motz.

Family members include his sons Daniel (Christy) Eichorn, Lincoln and Douglas (Alisa) Eichorn, Bellevue; grandchildren Henry, Chloe, and Millie; sister Nancy Reisdorff, Aurora, CO. Preceded in death by his parents and wife Anne.

Ike and I were starting guards on the Cheyenne 1957 basketball team. He was the captain and a no-nonsense hard driving playmaker. We guarded each other once in a college holiday tournament. He thoroughly outplayed me. Couldn’t stop him or get around him. At Pioneer Park his dad ‘Big Ike’ came to baseball practice and kept after ‘little Ike’ the whole time! Funny now, but then, hard work. Little Ike was the finest of teammates! Rick Deines, Milwaukee, WI
