Dr. Calvert was a graduate of Friend High School, Nebraska Wesleyan University, and the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He completed his internship at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha and his pediatric residency at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Omaha (1962-1964). In 1964, he began his lifelong career with the Lincoln Pediatric Group until his retirement in 2000. He then worked for the Social Security Administration for 20 years. Dr. Calvert was instrumental in a bill being passed requiring children to be protected in approved car seats.
Dr. Calvert was a member of the First-Plymouth Congregational Church, Lancaster County Medical Association, Nebraska Medical Association, and FAAP (Fellow of American Academy of Pediatrics).
Tom’s greatest joys were being with family and friends, fishing, biking, hiking and traveling. Best of all, he enjoyed teaching children to fish. He was a good man who loved life, was loved by many, and will be greatly missed.
Family members include his wife of 67 years, Nancy; daughters Beth (Dr. Larry) Kagan and Dr. Kathy Calvert (Jim Wiese); sons Dr. Tom (Dr. Lisa) Calvert, and Michael (Cori) Calvert; grandchildren Sam Morrisette-Calvert (Sarah and Kevin), Clare Morrisette-Calvert (Mario), Ryan (Jen) Harbaugh, Parker (Rebekkah) Harbaugh, Sarah (Ramsey)Young, Chloe Kagan, Mili Kagan, Jacob (Ashley) Calvert, and Ethan (Prerona) Calvert; sister Gretchen (Jack) Klippenstein; great grandchildren Polly Robin Morrisette, Gavin Harbaugh, Lennox and Carson Harbaugh, Rowan and Ayla Young; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Alfred Calvert and sister-in-law Yvonne Calvert.
Memorial service: 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 26, 2024, First-Plymouth Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 2000 D Street. The family will greet guests beginning at 1:00 pm Wednesday, June 26, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Lincoln Children’s Zoo, First-Plymouth Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, or Nebraska Wesleyan University.
