Dr. Harold Edward “Ted’ Maude, Sr. died December 28, 2013. He was born June 30, 1931 in Detroit to Edna Lewis Maude and Russell Hunter Maude. In 1956, Ted graduated in the top ten percent of his class at the University of Michigan College Of Dentistry. While an undergraduate at the University of Michigan, he played tackle on the Michigan football team and was defenseman on the Michigan hockey team. In 1954, Ted married the love of his life, Marilyn Pedersen of Lincoln.
Through the years, they welcomed their three beloved children, Susan Alice Maude (Christensen), Harold “Pete” Edward Maude, Jr., and Matthew Michael Maude. In 1956, Ted proudly began his service to his country in the United States Navy Dental Corps at the naval Training Station in San Diego, California. He retired from the United States Navy Dental Reserve in 1968 with rank of Commander.
In 1958, Ted and Marilyn moved their family from San Diego to Lincoln where Ted joined his father-in-law, Dr. Merritt C. Pedersen, in a family dental practice. His daughter, Susan, joined his dental practice in 1981. They were the first father/daughter dental practice in Nebraska. He retired in 1997, Dr. Maude was a Fellow in the International College of Dentists, a 50 year member of the American Dental Association, Nebraska Dental Association, and the Lincoln District Dental Association, a member of the Capital City Dental Study Club, the University of Nebraska Medical Center Chancellor’s Club and the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry Dean’s Club. He was also a member of the Phi Gamma Delta social fraternity and Delta Sigma Delta dental fraternity.
For 55 years, Ted was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lincoln and served as an Elder, Deacon, and Usher. He was also a 53 year member of the Country Club of Lincoln where he loved playing golf and a good game of cards with cherished friends. When he wasn’t serving his community, Ted dedicated his time and devotion to his family, and often traveled extensively with them.
Ted will be greatly missed by his survivors, beloved wife, Marilyn; daughter, Susan (Dr. Michael) Christensen; sons, Harold E. “Pete” (Cathy) Maude, and Matthew M. (Kristen) Maude; his grandchildren, Douglas Straub III, Edward (Ted) H. (Elizabeth) Straub, Mitchell H. (Samantha) Straub, Harold E. “Tug” (Missy) Maude III, Daniel B. (Lindsay) Maude, Hunter Maude, Kathryn Maude, Erika Etzelmiller, Evan Etzelmiller; and great-granddaughter, Davis Grace Maude.
Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014, Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd. with Rev. Dr. Andrew McDonald and Rev. Ellen Davis officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to the University of Nebraska Foundation for the Maude Faculty Fellowship in Dentistry, Westminster Church Foundation, or the Lincoln Food Bank Backpack Program.
