After Doyle graduated from high school, he joined the Army National Guard and took his basic training at Ft. Knox, KY. He married Carolyn Riggs on April 14, 1963. They later divorced. To this union, Mary Alice Kernes was born in August of 1972. He later married Pat Holland. Doyle worked for Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph for many years. He was also a Ham operator for many years. He enjoyed classic cars and rebuilding them. He was an avid bicyclist until his health no longer allowed it. He was a Shriner, the Lincoln car club, a member of AA for 45 years and Masons. He was baptized as an infant at the EUB church. He later accepted Jesus Christ as his savior.
He was preceded in death by his parents Steve and Alta Kernes, infant daughter Mary Alice, sisters LaDonna Wynn and Ailene Boyd, and wife, Pat Kernes.
Family members include his nieces and nephew, Becky (John) Saddler of Phillipsburg, KS, Barbara (Tharran) Gaines of Lamar, MO, Diana Dinella of Sewell, NJ, Dixie Garner of Springfield, MO, Dan (Ann) Kernes of Camden, DE; friends/caregivers, Kaden Nash and Kris Keener; honorary granddaughter, Briana Nash, and family friend, Linda Stoddard.
Memorial service will take place 1:00 p.m. Tuesday June 10, 2025 at Roper and Son’s Midtown Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ St. Lincoln, NE 68510.
Private inurnment will take place at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.
