Douglas Francis Fitzekam, 83, of Lincoln passed away September 21, 2018 surrounded by loving family. Born October 4, 1934 in Nebraska City, NE to Otto and Cecelia (Heng) Fitzekam. U. S. Air Force Veteran.
After his retirement from the Air Force and Air National Guard, Doug went into the insurance business where he earned his FLMI certification. His longtime insurance career allowed him to relocate to New Jersey for 10 years until his final retirement.
Doug enjoyed spending time with his family and was a long time active member of the Ashland Country Club where he loved playing golf. His hobbies included woodworking and gardening. His passion for landscaping earned him an award in the Cripple Creek Homeowners Association.
Family members include his wife Marilyn; children Kim Szelag, Phillip (Keli) Fitzekam, Lou Anne (Brett) Daugherty, Carole (Michael) Owen and Teresa (Jesse) Cortinas; grandchildren Casey Carlbom, Raymond Szelag II, Cecelia Fitzekam, Elizabeth Fitzekam, Abigail Fitzekam, Jared Daugherty, Tessa Daugherty, Daniel Owen, Emily Owen, Sarah Cortinas and Jesse Cortinas; 2 great-grandchildren; brothers Gordon (Margaret) and David (Anita) Fitzekam; sister Colleen Schreiter; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents and son-in-law Raymond Szelag.
Rosary: 7:00 p.m. Thursday (9-27-18) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Friday (9-28-18) St. John The Apostle Catholic Church, 7601 Vine Street with Fr. Lyle Johnson officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation: 2-8 p.m. Thursday with family to greet friends from 6-7 p.m. followed by the rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Roper and Sons.
