Obituary

Douglas Eugene Deeter

February 26, 1953 - February 14, 2026

Douglas Eugene Deeter, 72, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on February 14, 2026.

Doug was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, a community he loved and proudly called home throughout his life.  He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, forming lifelong friendships and memories that remained important to him.

Following college, Doug entered the family business, Deeter Foundry, Inc., where his leadership, integrity and work ethic carried the company forward.  He eventually served as President and CEO until the business was sold 1998.

Doug had a deep love for the outdoors. He was an avid golfer and found great happiness hunting alongside his beloved black labs. Whether on the golf course, in the field or surrounded by family and friends, he was most at peace doing the things he loved with the people he cherished.

Doug will be remembered for his steady presence, his dedication to family and community, and the strength and kindness he carried throughout his life.  His legacy lives on in the family he adored and the many lives he touched.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Jacqueline Deeter, and his sister, Carol Campbell.

Above all else, Doug was a devoted husband, father and Papa. He shared 50 years of marriage with his wife, Leslie Deeter. He is also survived by his daughter, Cary (Chad) Kline, his son, Trent Deeter; and his sister, Jane (Craig) Pohlman. He was a proud and loving Papa to Sam, Ben and Max Kline, who brought him immeasurable joy.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 3, 2026, at First Plymouth Congregational Church in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Memorials in lieu of flowers to the Lincoln Children’s Zoo or charity of the donor’s choosing.

One of my best vacations ever was to Ireland and Scotland in 2006 for the Ryder Cup at The K Club. We played 7 rounds, drank and partied hard. Doug did shoot PAR at St Andrews that trip. His standard line on the 1st tee. “I’ll Press”. I’m sure they have a 19th hole in Heaven Sally and I will miss him.

Doug gave me my first job in human resources right out of college. Although we went through some challenging times, all these years later, it is still one of my favorite jobs that I have ever had. Doug was a great leader, had an amazing sense of humor, and was just a really nice person to work with. I will always be grateful to him for giving me that opportunity. It truly shaped my life in an important way. Rest in Peace

I remember Doug Deeter from working at the Country Club of Lincoln in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I didn’t know him personally but you knew it when Doug was around. Doug’s infectious laughter was one for the ages. Doug was always in a great mood and could cheer up an entire ballroom. Condolences to the Deeter family.

I first met Doug playing midget football for Leon’s Class B team. We won a lot of games during the next six year run, remaining teammates and friends through our high school years at LSE. No one was more competitive and loyal; a true leader. God’s blessings and peace to Leslie and family. Doug is gone but never forgotten.

Doug and I were fraternity brothers at UNL. Doug was a few years younger and we were not in school at the same time, but it was my pleasure to have known him. Doug was a great supporter of our capital campaign almost 15 years ago to renovate and update our chapter house, and the conversation Doug and I had at that time is a great memory. (I was a co-chair of that campaign.) My deepest sympathies to his family, and my prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.

So many great memories at the Hillside Cir Deeter house. Doug was one of the fun, cool dads! Absolute legend may have driven Cary and I to toilet paper a boys house. So sorry for your loss Deeter/Kline family. He was one of a kind.
