Doris Mae Peterson

September 14, 1924 - March 24, 2012

Doris Mae Peterson, 87, of Lincoln, passed away on Saturday March 24, 2012 with family at her side. Born on September 14, 1924 in Omaha, Neb., she was the daughter of Mary and William Stout.

A graduate of Omaha South High School, she worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone until joining the Navy Medical Corps during WWII. She had basic training at Hunter College, New York. She achieved a rank of Pharmacists Mate Second Class and served at U.S. Naval Hospital, San Diego, Calif. She was a member of American Legion Post #3.

She married Eldon Peterson on August 6, 1948 and they were married 62 years before Eldon’s passing on May 3, 2011. Doris taught piano and organ for 27 years at McCabe’s and in her home. She also played at the Elks club, the Legion Club, and Gold’s Cafeteria. Doris loved gardening, sewing, cooking, and especially her family. Doris and Eldon were avid campers for many years. They were members of Conestoga Campers and Heartland Travelers Chapter of Family Motor Coach Association. They were charter members of St. Andrews Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eldon, and infant grandson, Matthew David Hansen. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia and son-in-law, Mark D. Hansen of Lincoln; granddaughter, Mindy Lee McEntee and her husband Sean of Odenton, Md.; and sister, Judy Schoening of Houston, Texas.

Celebration of Life 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 29th, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 1015 Lancaster Lane, Pastor Kim Osborn, officiating.

Visitation 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, with family greeting friends from 7-8 p.m. at Roper and Sons, 4300 ‘O’ Street, and one hour prior to service at the Church. Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park.

Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
