Doris D. Schaffer, 81, formerly of Raymond, died 9/17/2014 in Lincoln. She was born 8/30/33 in Raymond, NE to Harry and Rosalie (Barton) Nelson. Retired Customer Service Representative for Lincoln Telephone & Telegraph, Raymond Central School Bus Driver, former member of the Raymond Methodist Church and Telephone Pioneers.

Doris was an avid Husker fan and attended many volleyball and softball games. She also loved to fish and garden. She was known as the ‘plant lady’ at the Legacy Terrace where she lived for the past 7 years and they gave her a special garden area. Doris loved to travel and her favorite vacation spot was Jamaica.

Family includes: daughters; Sandy Schaffer and fiancé Lou Ridgley, Nancy and Steve Lind-Olson, Cheryl & Steve Jones; sons, Richard ‘Rick’ Schaffer, Steven ‘Beano’ Schaffer; former daughter-in-law Debbie Schaffer; granddaughters, and spouses, Brookley (Jeffrey) Norris, Makenzie (Van) Hough, Nicole ‘Nicki’ Schaffer, grandsons and spouses Joseph (Candice) Schaffer, Roger Jones (Nicole Harris), Trenton Schaffer and Aaron Ridgley; great grandchildren, Alan Schaffer, Dominic Schaffer, Kylie Jones and Kiera Norris; Sisters and spouses, Glenna Ingraham, Marian and Keith Ivey, Joan and Mike Pokorny; sister-in-law, Bev Schaffer; special nephew and niece, Michael Martin (Donna, Ryland and Beckett), Erin Martin Campbell (Jeff, Carson and Kyle); many other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by parents, husband, Robert ‘Bob’ Schaffer; infant son Rickie Gene Schaffer; brother, Darrell ‘Bud’ Nelson; sister, Deanna Nelson. In-laws Henry & Helen Schaffer, brother-in- laws Floyd Ingraham, Ronald Schaffer and Russell Schaffer.

Cremation, no visitation, private family interment at Oak Creek Cemetery, Raymond, NE.

Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, (9/19/14) at the Evangelical United Lutheran Church, 5945 Fremont St. Lincoln, NE. with Rev. Dr. Neal Anthony, officiating.

In Lieu of flowers Memorial for Parkinson’s Research, to University of Nebraska FOUNDATION, c/o the family.
