Doris Carol Barsby Wampler

November 27, 1928 - August 28, 2015

Doris Carol Barsby Wampler, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away Friday, August 28 at the age of 86. She was born November 27, 1928 to Alta and Carroll McClure Barsby in Savonburg, Kansas. She attended Savonburg Schools, Chanute Junior College, Kansas University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1966.

While attending Junior College, she met Joe Wampler of Chanute, KS, and they were married in 1949. Joe and Doris lived in York, NE for three years when Joe was teaching at York College. Son David was born while they were in York. The family moved to Lincoln in 1954 when Joe took a position as Associate Professor in Mathematics at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Son Dean was born shortly after the move.

Doris taught school for over 25 years, two years in the Lawrence, KS public schools and later as a kindergarten teacher in the Lincoln public schools. She was active in the First United Methodist Church, becoming a member in 1954, United Methodist Women, Chapter V PEO, Lincoln Sewing Guild, and Bryan Hospital Volunteers. Besides her family, she also enjoyed her friends and neighbors, sewing, gardening, reading, dance club and travel with Joe.

Family members include sons David and wife, Tracy Wilson, of Becket, Massachusetts, and Dr. Dean Wampler and wife, Vicki Belz Wampler of Omaha; two grandchildren, Travis Wampler and wife Kate Whalen Wampler, and Ashley (Wampler) Gloystein and husband Jesse; and four great grandchildren, Reagan, Reese and Paige Gloystein, and Benjamin Wampler, all of Omaha; a sister, Iris Spencer and husband Bill of Lenexa, KS, and two nieces and families, also of Lenexa; a brother-in-law, Dean D. Wampler, of New York state.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, in 2013, and her parents.

A service in Celebration of her Life will be held at First United Methodist Church, 2723 North 50th Street, Lincoln, on Saturday, September 5 at 11 am, followed by a luncheon at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Women (in care of the church) or the Dr. Joe F. and Doris C. Wampler Endowed Scholarship at Nebraska Wesleyan University.
