She was a lifelong resident of Lincoln where she graduated as valedictorian from College View High School. While in school she met Donald “Jupe” her husband of 65 years. After high school, she attended Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing where she received her RN degree. Donna loved being a surgical and clinical RN and retired from nursing following the birth of their second daughter. After raising their three daughters, Donna continued her love of sewing by designing, piecing and hand quilting numerous quilts and wall hangings. She was recognized for her workmanship and won several local, state and national quilting awards.
Survived by daughters Susan Svoboda and Patricia Heikes both of Fremont, Mary Miyeno of Lincoln, favorite and only grandchild, Tyler Gates Heikes, wife Ashley and daughters Alayna and Alexis of Bennington, Sister Marilyn Bartling, cousins, nieces and a nephew.
Preceded in death by her loving husband Jupe, son in law James Miyeno, grandparents, parents, and brother in law.
Services at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday August 15 at Roper & Sons Midtown Chapel 4300 “O” Street. Visitation with family will be one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lincoln Quilters Guild in care of Mary Miyeno, 9150 Red Sky Lane, Lincoln, NE 68520.
Internment at Wyuka Cemetery immediately following the service. Please join the family at Roper and Sons for refreshments afterwards.
