Darlene Myrna Burge

Darlene Myrna Burge, 79, of Lincoln, passed away November 23, 2015 with her family by her side. Born June 23, 1936 in Lincoln, NE to Richard and Myrna (Strayer) Cummings. Darlene married Gerald Burge on November 18, 1954, and they were married nearly 60 years until his death on October 29, 2014. Darlene joined Trinity Lutheran Church when she married Gerald and spent many years serving as a Sunday School teacher.

She was a very busy farm wife. She helped raise cows, pigs, and various other animals. Darlene became a Certified Nursing Assistant and then became the Activity Director at Holmes Lake Manor and Homestead Healthcare & Rehabilitation Hospital, retiring in 2006. In their later years, she provided the physical assistance Gerald needed and he provided the guidance and directions she required. Darlene demonstrated unconditional love to her husband, children and grandchildren, all of her other family members and countless friends and co-workers. She touched everyone in a special and unique way, always hopeful, always positive, full of fun and humor, and always ready to share a meal or provide a helping hand. ‘Granny’ showed us what love truly is.

Darlene is survived by her daughters, Jeri (Ernie) Neubauer, Dunbar, NE, Peggy (Monte) Shipman, Lindale, TX, Denise (Bruce) Callies, Lincoln, NE; son, Craig (Carol) Burge, Williamsburg, VA; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Teri (Larry) Tenney and Jackie (Larry) Wheatley, all of Lincoln, NE; nieces and nephews.
