Daniel Bruce Lind

May 27, 1943 - August 16, 2022

A Celebration of Life for Daniel Bruce Lind, born May 27, 1943. Entered into Eternity August 16, 2022.

Daniel Bruce Lind, third son of Lawrence Willard and Hazel Leona Flodman-Lind, was born May 27, 1943, at the Stromsburg Hospital in Stromsburg, NE. At an early age, Dan was baptized in the Methodist faith at the United Methodist Church in Stromsburg, NE.

Dan’s elementary through high school years were spent in Stromsburg Public Schools. He graduated with the class of 1961. Upon graduating, he furthered his education at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, Milford Institute of Technology (Southeast Community College), as well as the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

On November 2, 1963, he was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Voss-Lind at Zion Lutheran Church in Carleton, NE. To this union a son, Brent Alan Lind, and daughter, Shawn Carae Lind-Priess, were born.

Dan served in the Nebraska National Guard with Basic Training at Fort Leonardwood, MO, and Military Police Training at Fort Gordon, GA. He was honorably discharged on December 14, 1971.

Dan was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln on December 13, 1964, by Reverend Robert G. Nelson. He was an active member, attending weekly worship, gathering with the Saturday morning men’s breakfast and Bible study at Southwood Lutheran Church in Lincoln, NE.

Dan worked for the Physical Plant at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, B-C Steel Corporation, Scottsbluff, NE, Overhead Door Corporation and Chief Construction (a division of Chief Industries), Grand Island, NE. He retired in June of 2008.

Dan was active in Overland Trails Boy Scouts with Brent and Y-Indian Princess with Shawn. He served as President and member of the G.I. Joggers Club, participating in 10k races, half marathons, and a marathon. He was a member of the Capital Heights Swim Club, Lions Club, and was Past President and member of the Rainbow Lake Homeowners Association. In recent years he served as Vice president on the Chrysalis Lutheran Homes Inc. Board of Directors. He enjoyed many years golfing on Senior League as well as with his golf buddies. On September 10, 2009, he celebrated “Hole in One” at the Bella Vista Country Club in Bella Vista, AR.

Dan dreamed of owning another 1957 Chevy two door hardtop. Finding a “basket case”, he spent 12 years working in the garage, restoring it into “mint” condition. All five grandchildren drove the ‘57 during their learning permit days. He was so proud.

Dear Margaret and family, We were deeply saddened to read of the death of Dan. It was always a pleasure to run into him and you Margaret, because our meeting usually meant that we were discussing our common connection…Brent and Shawn. And…what a wonderful topic to be discussing. They are a special pair. Martha and I worked with both of them in the classrooms at Northwest High. AND…one or the other or both of us worked with the two people they chose for their life partners…Sharon and Mark. What powerful genes your grandchildren are carrying around, Margaret. I wish we could spend sometime in the classroom with them, too. But…sadly…life just passes too quickly, and we must be content to do what old folks do. We said a silent prayer for you as we attended Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral last Saturday, and we will pray for the Lind family (and the Kozisek and Priess family). May Dan Rest in God’s Peace.

Margaret, We were so very sorry to hear about Dan’s death. You and Dan were the best neighbors we ever had. I remember you both being so welcoming when we moved to Grand Island. I hope you know you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Sorry for your loss. Hadn’t seen Dan for some time, then met him on walking/bike path two years ago. We planned to get out golfing but didn’t get it done. Nice guy

Dan was very special to all of us, I worked with him for many years. On one of our trips together I went in and said I was going to rent a convertible, the girls and Dan were in the car with top down, when we got to the motel it looked like rain so I reached for the button and put the top up, Dan said I didn`t know it had an electric top, he had physically put the top down which is NOT and easy task. This is our Dan, God is receiving one of the best.

Dear Mom, Shawn & Brent, let us express our deepest sympathy in this time of sorrow to all of you. When Shawn called this morning l was immediately shaken. Thank you so much for sharing this information with us. It made me very, very sad and I still cannot believe it, had Shawn and I just talked on Monday on the phone. I can imagine your emotions 🖤 in this moment and know how hard it must be for each one of you to manage this situation. Our hearts and thoughts are with you and we’ll pray for dad that where he is now suffering for him had an end and that he can now reunite with loved ones on the other side-as we hope we’ll all do when the time comes. I shared this news with Sopa at lunchtime-and she was shocked as well and couldn’t believe it. We had talked about dad and his situation many times and as COVID kept us apart for so long, we had already planned to try and see him again in the coming year. This chance has now passed. Dad was such a lovely, gentle and generous person, husband and father – not just to the immediate family, but also to a stranger where he became a father for a third time and in the constellation I grew up, he was the first actual father to me, when I shared the time with you. So today it feels to me like my own father passed. I’m so thankful for every moment we had together and so many memories come back thinking of the fun times we had together. Our thoughts are with you every minute

So very sorry to hear of Dan’s passing. He was a good friend. Played many rounds of golf together. Had lunch with him in Lincoln this year. He was a great guy. Always fun to be with.
