Dale M. “Wiz” Wismer

December 7, 1921 - May 22, 2008

Dale M. “Wiz” Wismer, 86, Lincoln, died Thursday (5-22-08). Born Benedict, NE (12-7-1921) to Otis John and Ann Mary (Pillard) Wismer.

Ret. 1983, School Teacher/Coach, McCook, NE, Los Alamos, NM and Lincoln, NE, for 37 ½ years. Dale attended Lincoln High School where he was an All-State football player in 1940 and was nicknamed “Lincoln Ace”. Received his Masters Degree in Education from Colorado State University in 1960. WWII Navy Veteran where he served aboard LST #805.

Member: St. Paul United Methodist Church; B.P.O.E. #80; American Legion Post #3; Executive Club; Welfare Society; former member of the Hillcrest Country Club, Past President, Board of Directors and one of the original founding members of the “Dirty Dozen” golf group. Dale recorded rushing statistics for all Husker home football games from 1962-1997.

Loved dance, cards, golf, music and especially spending time with his family.

Family members include son, daughter-in-law: Douglas and Christine Wismer, Lincoln; daughter, son-in-law: Ann and James Taylor, Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, spouses: Jon and Jenny Wismer, Ben Wismer, Mitch Wismer, Nate and Sing Wei Wismer; Megan Taylor; step-grandchildren, spouse: Kelly and Brian Graham; Jeff Oakeson; 2 great grandchildren: Owen Edward Wismer and Emily Marie Graham; brother-in-law: Jack Rea, Beatrice, NE. Preceded in death by parents, wife – Dorothy of 50 years, 2nd wife Perrye, grandson – Scott Taylor.

Graveside Service: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday (5-27-08) Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, 6800 S. 14th Street. Family and friends may gather at gate #2. Military graveside rites conducted by the Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard.

Memorials to the Lincoln Public Schools Foundation or Nebraska Athletic Dept.

No visitation/cremation.
