Obituary

Corey L. Miller

December 25, 1965 - May 1, 2025

Corey Lee Miller was born Dec 25, 1965, on Christmas Day to Eugenio Acosta and Patricia Miller. He was 19 inches long and 5 lbs and 1 oz.  He passed away suddenly in his apartment May 1, 2025. Corey had been suffering with a degenerative bone disease which forced him to quit working because of pain and weakness.

Corey grew up in Christ Temple Misson Church. Corey accepted Jesus as Savior as a young teen. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1984. In high school, he along with his brother and sister helped manage Capitol City Cleaning Service and worked at Patty’s Place, his mother’s café. There they learned a work ethic and customer service. Corey and his siblings learned to manage crews of teens and adults in the families Commercial Cleaning Service. Corey was quick to accomplish everything he put his hand to whether it was mastering the buffers for marble floors, cooking, playing acoustic and electric guitar, making stain glass art, flower arranging, plumbing, carpentry, painting, electricity, or maintenance of machinery. No job was too big or too small. He was self-taught in all these areas and worked at it until he mastered it. He never liked being idle.

Corey found humor in everything, including himself. He loved all kinds of music, especially unique music that showcased extraordinary vocals or guitars etc. When he wasn’t working, He loved getting with friends to jam on percussion and guitars.

Corey had a heart of compassion. It didn’t matter who you were, what color your skin, what ethnicity, your religion, politics, or anything else, if you were in need and he could help, he did. He was the kind of person who would take his shirt off his back if need be.

He married Katherine Elizabeth Kelly, and they had a son named Seamus. He too is a musician and loves all kinds of music. Corey loved cats, especially his kitty Boris. Corey was sensitive and could be brought to tears at the sight of a newborn, a baby kitten, a kind act, or a hug from Great Grandma Ruth. He always looked forward to Christmas when he could count on the tradition of getting new underwear and kitchen towels from his mother. Yet, Corey was a rugged, strong individual. He was outspoken and had his own opinions. You never had to guess where he was coming from. He was ready to stand his ground if he felt injustice.  He could be quick to anger but quick to forgive or say I am sorry.

Corey was preceded in death by his father Eugenio Acosta and niece Taylor LeeAnn Miller. He is survived by his son Seamus Miller (Mariah),  granddaughters Sophia and Kennedy Miller, mother Patrica Smith, sister Melissa Womack (David IV) and  brothers Kelly Miller and Leroy Acosta, and sister Belinda Acosta, stepdad James Smith, grandmother Ruth Miller, Aunt Tracey Hillman, (Roger), Uncle Kenny Miller (Eileen), cousins Chris Hillman, (Rachel) Julie Michels, (Travis) Rod Miller (Katie), Maria Acosta, Diana Qua, Jackie Garivay Haeffner, nephews Jade Miller (Amber), Owen Hastings, Donovan Hastings, Nathanial Miller Badousek (Victoria), David Womack V, DJ Womack, great nephew Tobias Miller, great niece Joslyn Badousek and several second cousins.
