Clyde Lee Broadston, 87, of Lincoln passed away peacefully in his daughters arms, at Monarch Hospice, December 3, 2015. Born on 5/31/1928 to Albert A. Broadston and Pearl Blanche (Forsythe) Broadston in Washington, KS.
Clyde was a retired Firefighter Captain for Lincoln Fire Department, following a 30-year career. He enlisted in the U.S. Army June 5, 1946 at Fort Riley; served in the Pacific Post-WWII; was honorable discharged December 4, 1948. He attended Peru State Teachers College for 3 ½ years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #131; and the American Legion Post #3. He married the love of his life, in their mutual hometown, Washington, Kansas, November 10, 1957. They moved to Havelock in Lincoln the same year. Clyde took his talent with guitar, voice, and love of country music on the road in the 1980s. He made 3 CDs and traveled to music festivals throughout the Midwest, earning him induction into America’s Old-Time Traditional Country Music Hall of Fame in 1998. In 1996, Clyde and Sweet Bev retired winters to Alamo Palms, Texas to their Lincoln home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Scott Coatsworth; and the staff at Monarch Hospice. And suggests that memorials be made to the American Legion.
Clyde is survived by; Wife Beverly of Lincoln, Daughter, Patricia (William) Woodruff of Lincoln. Brother, Ralph (Vonnie) of Steele City, NE; Granddaughter; Katie Woodruff (Andrew) Umland. Honorary daughter; Rebela (Ron) Swenson. Sister-in-law Meredith (Bob) Silva. Many loving nieces and nephews, and friends. Proceeded in death by his parents, Brothers Leonard, Merle, Russel, Earl, and William; and Sisters Edna, Lorraine, and Mary Ellen.
Funeral service is on Wednesday, 12/9/15 at 11:00 a.m. at Havelock United Methodist Church, 4140 N 60th Street. Family will greet friends on Tuesday 6:00-7:30 p.m.
