Carter was in two of my elementary education practicums while he was in the 8th grade. For two months, he made me laugh, feel welcome, and worked hard. I took this picture of him at the science fair. What a joy he was — he will be greatly missed.

I met Carter in May and had the pleasure of attending Army OSUT with him. When I tell you this kid was the shining light in the dark, I mean it. When things sucked, either because we were doing hard PT or I missed family, Carter always would find a way to make everyone laugh. That’s what I’ll miss the most. To Carter’s family, thank you for raising such a phenomenal person. It was and honor and a pleasure to know your son.

We moved next door to the Trumble’s when Carter was 6 weeks old and we had the pleasure of watching him grow up. When he was two we watched from our kitchen window as he crawled up on to their kitchen table and attempted to swing from the chandelier before his mom put a stop to it. 😆 Then around age 5 he came over and asked if our son (age 16) could play. Logan spent the next hour teaching Carter how to skateboard. Going into his Senior year, I was able to spend quite a bit of time with him while taking his Senior photos. Carter was such a sweet and humorous little guy who grew into a kind and personable young man. His dedication to service started at a young age with mission trips to Honduras and carried through to serving his country with honor. His time was much too short, but he has left a lasting impression.

Carter is my sister-in-law’s nephew. I’ve known him since he was a baby. Growing up, he was always wild and fun. He had a wonderful sense of humor and beaming smile. He was THE source of entertainment at all the family gatherings I attended. Carter was bright, ambitious, and was rich with wonderful family and friends. Everyone loved him. Time gets away from all of us as I haven’t seen him in a handful of years but I will miss him dearly. Go with God, Carter.

Our friendship began when the boys were just in preschool, and we feel so incredibly lucky to have been a part of Carter’s life—and Malinda, Chris, and Emma’s—for all of these years. Carter was a bright, kind, and beautiful soul who brought so much joy into everyone’s lives. His loss is heartbreaking, and words will never be enough—but his memory will always be with us, and our love for your family will never fade.
