Obituary

Candice Potratz

May 6, 1956 - September 6, 2025

Candice Marie (Coupe) Potratz, 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 6, 2025, in Lincoln, NE. Born on May 6, 1956, in Lincoln, NE, to John R. and Marilyn A. (Swindle) Coupe.

At an early age, Candi possessed a strong creative and entrepreneurial spirit.  She was a dedicated team member in the retail trade at Miller and Paine, Richmond-Gordman and Chicos.  She owned and operated Candice & Co, a boutique in Louisville, Nebraska.  Candi also became a successful Jazzercise instructor with a loyal following.  Later she carried forward the family legacy in real estate, serving as a beloved realtor for 22 years with Woods Brothers and Home Real Estate.

Growing up as a neighbor to Arnott Folsom of Folsom’s Children’s Zoo, Candi acquired a deep love for all animals.  She was the owner of several pets, but none as special as her last dog, Teddy. Teddy’s love towards Candi was better than any medications she took during her illness.  You seldom saw Candi without Teddy.

Candi was affiliated with Alpha Phi sorority and a member of the Realtors Association of Lincoln.

She is survived by her husband, Larry, of Lincoln, NE; father John Coupe of Lincoln, NE; children Sarah Borland of Orlando, FL., Casey (Kelly) Diekmann of Longmont, CO., and Hannah Rice of Lincoln, NE.; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; step-children Thad (Mia) Potratz of Lincoln, NE., and Niki (Craig) Ronne of Omaha, NE.; 7 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; sister Caroline (Mitch) Coupe Schainost of Lincoln, NE.; and three nephews.

Preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Roper and Sons South Chapel (3950 Hohensee Dr. Lincoln, NE 68516).

Memorials are designated to the Alzheimer’s Association and Capital Human Society.

Candi was our realtor when we bought our first house in 2002, in Indian Village. She showed us where she grew up in a house near ours, and for all these years I’ve thought of her when I drive by it. She was patient, kind, direct and so helpful for 2 house-buying newbies, and we still live in and love this place, so she clearly did a great job. So sorry to read about this loss, and sending peace to her family and friends.

Oh my dearest Candi… We had so much fun teaching Jazzercise together many years ago, it was fun but hard time in our lives. My deepest sympathy to your family. May the Lord give you all comfort and peace during this difficult time.

I remember the time we drove a thousand miles, For me to meet and greet you, and was greeted by your smiles. The source of a soul so close to my heart, Those days of welcome were a beautiful start to beginnings and scene endings .. to a lovely picture. Open hands and open hearts, Your laugh, your smile, your pups all took part. Cheering the days where I could say, “Thank you for your daughter and for letting me stay.” You gave rest when skies turned grey, Warmth and comfort all along the way. The food was good, the view divine, A memory etched, forever in time .. eyes to seas. So I wipe my tears and thank the Most High, For the seeds you planted that still testify. Though sorrow lingers, your light remains, A shining star through joy and pain .. to growth for within. My condolences, yet love I impart, For your bright spirit lives on in my mind & heart. With love, David R.
