February 5, 1940 - April 29, 2026

C. Scott Sipherd was born February 5, 1940, in Omaha, Nebraska, the second child of Carl and Marion Chapin Sipherd. He died April 29, 2026, in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Scott graduated from Westside High School in 1958 as part of one of the school’s first graduating classes. While in high school, he was an exchange student to Norway, and after graduation he motorcycled through Europe with friends.

He served in the United States Air Force at Offutt Air Force Base from 1961 to 1965. During that time, he earned his college degree through the Bootstrap Program at Omaha University, now the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

On November 12, 1966, Scott married Belva Clausen of Rushville, Nebraska, in Omaha. Together they had two wonderful children, David and Aaron.

In 1967–1968, Scott attended and graduated from the American Institute of Foreign Trade in Phoenix, Arizona. He then went to work for American Express Corporation in its Military Banking Division. Scott and his family were stationed on Okinawa for four years, from 1968 to 1972, where they made many lifelong friends. He also traveled throughout the Far East as Military Banking Marketing Manager, including Okinawa, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and the Philippines.

From Okinawa, Scott was transferred to Frankfurt, West Germany, where the family lived in Kelkheim, between Frankfurt and Wiesbaden. He traveled throughout Europe as Travel Manager for Military Banking in Europe.

Scott and his family later moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where he worked for the National Bank of Commerce and later as a real estate agent. He finished his working career with the U.S. Immigration Service, working there from 1989 until his retirement in 2009.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Chapin. He is survived by his wife, Belva; sons David and his wife, Barbara, of Crescent, Iowa, and Aaron and his wife, Michelle, of Lincoln; sister Suzanne Sipherd Hinderliter of Farmington, New York; and nieces.

My condolences to the family of Mr. Sipherd. I had the pleasure of serving him where I work for the last 10 years. I always enjoyed the stories he would tell when we had the opportunity to chat. He will be missed.

Scott was a great colleague and friend. We met when I became an officer at INS. He taught me a lot without teaching me. We always had breaks and lunch together and talked about politics and other worldly matters that we could never do anything about. After Scott retired we would go to McDonalds and have lunch and ice cream cones. He loved that ice cream.
