Obituary

Brian Gansemer

September 10, 1964 - September 21, 2025

Brian Gansemer, Lincoln, NE, a loving and incredible husband of 36 years and the best dad ever of 2 daughters, passed away suddenly September 21, 2025.

He was born September 10, 1964, to Ronald and Kathleen (Kathy) Gansemer, graduated from Weeping Water High School, earned a finance degree from Creighton University, and was an Officer in the Army before beginning his career of 35 years as a software developer. Most recently, he had been a key developer of the Ocuvera fall prevention software system.

Brian is survived by wife Mary, and daughters Kate and Claire, sister Lisa (Mike) Barrett, nieces Kendall (John) Dehne and Peyton Barrett. He was preceded in death by his parents Ronald and Kathleen (Kathy) Gansemer.

Brian’s biggest joy in life was his 2 girls. He loved being a dad. He did it all; from changing diapers, bathtime, bedtime stories, underdogs on the swingset, walking to school, coaching softball, teaching them to water ski. It didn’t matter what they needed or wanted him to do, he was there for them. Brian loved his wife dearly. They had so many wonderful memories together. He was so proud of his family and loved them more than anything. He was an extremely talented guitar player and enjoyed playing with the band Strange Medicine for many years. He was an avid bike rider traveling many miles on trails in and around Lincoln. He enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle and going to Sturgis Motorcycle Rallies as often as he could with good friends. He loved being outdoors camping, hiking, walking or just sitting out back having a drink with friends. Most of all, Brian was a really nice guy and a fun and loyal friend to many. He will be so greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Roper and Sons South Chapel (3950 Hohensee Dr., Lincoln, NE 68516). In lieu of flowers, donations to Arbor Day Foundation.

It’s hard for me to even begin. I first remember Brian when he and I met at eSellerate 25 years ago. I remember someone mentioning to me we hired “a very talented, very passionate, very fun developer”. Supposedly this “Brian guy” had a history with us already; someone the “old guard” knew already. I very badly wanted to meet him. As it turns out, all of those things were true: fun, talented, passionate. But there’s more: that day I was introduced to someone who would be not only one of the best coworkers I ever had, but one of the best people I got to know. That day I met a really, really good friend. Fast forward 25 years, and he and I have been together through several companies, a consulting business, and so on. We worked shoulder to shoulder through some of the most challenging stuff we ever did professionally. The man had a passion for good software. He loved it because he saw good software could do good for people. And Brian was all about doing good for people. It was one of the many ways in which he helped others. I talk about “software” because that’s the lens through which he and I saw each other mostly. But there was so much more to him. He was absolutely passionate about his family and loved his children and wife immensely. He loved his friends. His music. He just simply loved life. I’m going to miss him immensely. Love you “Ganz”. Rest in peace.

Brian and I were next door neighbors. We spent hours playing catch with the softball and talking in the evenings. We laid on the driveway and watched the stars or hung out on the front porch until we were called in for the night. I remember him bringing his boom box and playing music on the bus for band trips. He was a great friend and my memories of him will always make me smile.

25+ years ago we met at ” Weekend warriors” at Paragon music in Lincoln, NE. From that time on we hit it off and started a band “Strange Medicine” with Matt Dorsey, Brad Kile and myself. For 23 years we played music locally with the support of our friends, family and some awesome people we worked with. Chad Springer joined us as lead singer and font man after Dr Pat Keelan left the band. We unfortunately lost Matt suddenly from a heart condition (RIP). Brian was the “do it all” guitar player for many years. Chad , Brian, Brad and I had the fortune to play together until 2024. He was the best guitar player I have ever played in a band with and we had many fun times cranking out music from Classic rock, Blues and Country. He was a good friend and motorcycle buddy. He served his country in the military. Was late bloomer as a dad, he loved his daughters deeply and was so proud of them. It added a depth to life that he and Mary flourished in. He was so lucky to have Mary by his side for all his endeavors. Mary know that we will always be here for you and the girls. I will deeply miss him, his smile, his laugh and those great times we had playing in the band. Those times riding with wind in our face on Harleys, camping at Hog Heaven, and hanging with the biker boys. Rest in peace my friend…till we meet in the next phase.
