Obituary

Bevan B. Alvey, Sr.

June 28, 1948 - December 24, 2017

Bevan B. Alvey, Sr.

Bevan Alvey passed away at his home in Lincoln, NE with his wife, Sharon Kresse, and his four children at his side. In Bevan’s senior yearbook, the staff had chosen for his description a line from Shakespeare’s Henry V: “He is as full of valor as of kindness, princely in both.”

Bevan held that his greatest accomplishment and blessing in this life are his children: Bevan Jr., Rudi, Eugene, and Kresse. His other sacred devotion was to his country. He chose to enter the Army during the Vietnam War and served as a platoon leader in the Air Cavalry, a branch of the 101st Airborne Division. He told his children that all he wants on his headstone is “1st Lt Bevan Alvey.”

His leadership extended to his career as a tax attorney in Minneapolis, MN and his mentoring and developing of advisors with Ameriprise Financial in Minnesota, Nebraska, and Iowa. Over the years, many advisors have expressed gratefulness for the influence he has had on their careers.

Bevan’s family has felt the love and support of so many friends as they shared this difficult journey of Bevan’s recent illness with them. Bevan has chosen to return to his hometown of Lincoln, Illinois for a private service at the Episcopal Church where he once served as an altar boy. He will be buried at his family’s cemetery in Atlanta, Illinois with his father and mother, Thomas William Alvey and Mary Ella Bevan Alvey. He was also preceded in death by his niece, Elizabeth Alvey Irwin. Besides his children, he is survived by his three grandchildren, his niece and nephews, and his brother and sister, Thomas William Alvey, Jr and Jennette Alvey Simkins. He is also survived by his ex-wife Sally Mathews Alvey.

No services will be held in Lincoln.
