Obituary

Betty J. Fischer

February 10, 1932 - March 9, 2025

Betty Jane (Bard) Fischer was born on the family farm near Wakefield, Nebraska on February 10th, 1932 to Clarence and Adelia (Ring) Bard. On March 9, 2025, Betty entered eternal life with her Heavenly Father. Betty began her education in a one-room country school. After her family moved to Wayne, she graduated from Wayne Prep in 1949 and Wayne State Teachers College in 1953.

Betty was joined in marriage to Ken Fischer August 3rd, 1954 in Wayne. She was an only child and married into a family of nine. It was quite an adjustment.

She taught at Lyons, Kennard, Scottsbluff, and Grand Island. Teaching was truly her calling.

Betty’s faith was important to her. She also liked to sing, so she combined the two and sang in Church Choirs in Wayne, Blair, Scottsbluff, and Grand Island. She and Ken loved to dance. How they would glide across the floor.

While she never played sports, she watched hundreds of games including Football, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, and Volleyball supporting her husband and children.

Betty was a member of Cathedral of the Risen Christ, Star City Bettys Club, and the B&S Ladies.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ken, parents, sister Rachel, and Son-in-Law Tim Miers.

She is survived by her children Julie Fischer and Lisa Miers, Omaha, Mary Fischer, Lincoln, Scott Fischer, Lincoln, and Paul Fischer, Oakland, California; Grandchildren; Melissa (Tom) Ragland and Ryan (fiancé Beckie) Forrest, Omaha, and Kenny Paul Fischer, Lincoln; Great-Grandchildren Ty, James, Waylon, Tucker, and Penelope. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Roper and Sons South Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive in Lincoln.

Memorials are suggested to Teammates: Teammates Mentoring, 6801 O Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68510.

Betty Fischer was a wonderful person a very caring person. Your life can be very challenging when you are the wife of a football coach. Betty handled that with grace and charm. May she RIP
