I met Bernie when I started working at Brandt exc . At first he intimated me (not sure why) . But listening to his life stories in the mornings I thought “this ole man is full of crap! Making up shit.” Then a few months would go by and it would be the same story. Then I realized this was for real. I’ve got to make this man my friend. So I did. We roomed together out of town. We went to the casinos and had a blast. But the best one was that one day, not sure where we were headed with Dickie, and his brother Bernie started talking bout a new farm crop called milage. Being who I am I just played along. Dickie didn’t believe for a while but eventually we convinced him. We laughed about that day many times. Wish my crippled ass could have been there today buddy. Luv ya man. See ya on the other side!

Bernie was always happy as if he had not a care in the world. I remember cleaning his house and getting rid of stuff, I seen a planter with a stick in it, I threw it out. A few days later he asked where it was. I told him I threw it out. It was just a stick. He said he had been growing that for the last 10 years…I felt so bad..I went out and got him a huge plant. I will miss his laugh, his kindness. Always giving , loved friends to talk with. Truly a special man.

I was lucky to have met Bernard as a nurse coming to visit him for over a few years. He seemed like such a ” tough guy” when I first met him but he had a heart of gold and was more like a big teddy bear. He lived telling stories of his days of trick driving, owning a bar, fishing and his family. Was very caring, always asked how I was doing and what was going on in my life. Several times he would call me to make sure I was stopping by, or check with me later to make sure I made it home. I can still picture him either sitting on the porch waiting for me or relaxing in his comfy chair. Cheers my good friend.
