Barbara MacKnight, 86, of Lincoln, passed away January 18, 2015. Born July 16, 1928 in Baton Rouge, La. to James M. and Egeria (Brooks) Barnett, attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., and graduated from Louisiana State University (LSU), and then married Frank the same year in 1948. ‘Babs’ raised four boys in St. Louis, Dayton, Ohio, Atlanta, Ga., and finally arrived in Lincoln in June of 1968, when she first worked outside the home at Love Library on the UNL Campus.
Besides volunteer work with inner-city youth in Atlanta, Barbara found her calling in assisting others by working for Social Services, as a Caseworker in Fairbury, and then Lincoln, for 10 years. The Family became members of St. Mark’s on the Campus Episcopal Church, upon arrival in 1968.
Family members include her sons & wives, John & Calvert, Papillion, Neb.; Reverend Jeffrey & Leslie MacKnight, Montgomery Village, Md.; daughter-in-law, Robin MacKnight, Lincoln; grandchildren, Jillian Ives, Lincoln; Catherine & Aaron Prestito, LaVista; Robert MacKnight, Papillion; Maggie & Colin MacKnight, Montgomery Village; Teagan & Trey MacKnight, Lincoln; and great-grandchildren, Anthony, Trinity, Justice, Sophia, Payton & Nolan, Omaha, Neb.; best friend, Kathleen Dinsmore, Downey, Calif.; nephews, Steve Glusman, Baton Rouge, La.; Thomas Barnett, Arlington, Va., Mark Barnett, K.C., Mo.; Paul Barnett, Va. Preceded in death by parents; sons, David and Dr. Christopher MacKnight; sister, Marion Glusman; brother, James M. Barnett.
Memorial Service: 10 a.m. Saturday (1/31/15), St. Mark’s on the Campus Episcopal Church, 1309 ‘R’ Street.
