Barbara was a loving wife to Charles Duncan, who preceded her in death just nine months ago on November 21, 2022. Barbara was also preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Audrey (Jarvis) Story, her in-laws William and Mary Duncan, brother and sister-in-law Jack and Virginia Duncan, and Brother-in-law Robert Duncan. Barbara adored her children, Patty Reinhardt (Mark), Penny Asher (Keith) and William (Bill) Duncan (Desiree). Barbara was also blessed with 9 grandchildren, Josh, Audrey, Jack, Madeline, Sydney, Sam, Samantha, Spencer and Skylar. Barbara also had 6 great-grandchildren, Hudson, Barrett, Claire, Callum, Levi and Asher.
Barbara Story married Charles Duncan on August 27, 1961. In the early years, Barbara loved being a stay-at-home mother to her young children. Later, she worked part-time at Goodrich Elementary School in the cafeteria, and part-time at Tyrrell’s Floral. Later, Barb was the receptionist at the University of Nebraska’s Student Union until her retirement.
Barbara’s faith in God was strong, and she and Chuck were members of Capitol City Christian Church for over 44 years.
Barbara would tell anyone her biggest accomplishment in life was being a mother. The pride in her children and grandchildren was apparent to all who knew her. Barbara loved all things beautiful. She loved arts and crafts, painting, scrapbooking, reading, Christmas, and beautifully wrapped packages. She took pride in her possessions; her antiques, hand-painted china and her impeccable home.
Barbara was loved by so many for her laugh, her empathy for others and for her kindness. She lived her life with passion and spirit. She will be deeply missed by all of her family and by so many friends.
Barbara’s family will hold a private burial in Nebraska City where she will be laid to her eternal rest next to her beloved husband. May her soul rest in peace.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Capitol City Christian Church on Friday, September 8th, at 11:00 with a luncheon to follow.
No visitation. Memorials to Capitol City Christian Church or donor’s favorite charity.
