Obituary

Amy Gaston

March 6, 1953 - November 24, 2025

Amy Marie (Costello) Gaston was born 3/6/1953 at the Murphy Maternity home in Greeley, Nebraska. She was the first born of 11 children and was the apple of her parents’ eyes.

As her Dad would say, “Aim was a winner” and always excelled in life. She graduated in 1971 from Archbishop Bergan High school in Fremont, NE and was her high school’s homecoming queen. She then completed undergraduate and post graduate studies at the University of Nebraska and completed a career as a compassionate teacher and guidance counselor for the Scotia, Milford, Colorado and Lincoln Public Schools for over 30 years.

Aim was very proud of her Irish heritage and got the opportunity to visit Ireland with her two girls after she retired. She loved to travel with her sissies, kids and friends to craft shows, hiking in Colorado, Irish festivals, Husker football games, etc. She also loved her dog Murphy, attending the theatre and musicals, gardening and planting flowers, and watching the St Louis Cardinals and Husker volleyball.

Foremost though, she looked after and cared deeply about her family, friends and others. She raised three beautiful children and loved her seven grandchildren. She made holidays extra special for her family. It wasn’t Christmas without Aim’s laughter and her full platter of Christmas treats (including her famous rockie road clusters) she made with her girls each year. It was rare that Aim ever missed a family party.

She also made a lasting, positive impact on others through her job as a teacher, counselor and mentor at TeamMates.

Aim was loved and respected by all. She was our Aim.

She was a wonderful person that left us too soon. It’s hard to imagine a world without her in it. We will love and miss her forever.

Survived by her children, Becki (John) Gaston-Wise of Lincoln, Erick (Erin) Gaston of Fort Worth, TX and Christie (Mike) Roberts of Parker, CO; grandchildren, Sophia, Clara, Lauren, Trent, Harper, Phoenyx, Tahlon; former spouse, Patrick Gaston; brothers and sisters, Miles (Nancy) Costello of Fremont, Patrick (Sheri) Costello of Omaha, Dennis (Jeanine) Costello of Burr Ridge, Illinois, Mary (John) Bichsel of Leawood, Kansas, Jennifer (Mike) Ingham of Pella, Iowa, Kathleen Costello of Lincoln, Karen Costello of Omaha, Timothy Costello of Papillion and Sue (Ken) Sedlak of Lincoln; plus uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Aim was preceded in death by her parents, Miles and Ann Costello; brother, Gregory Michael; sister-in-law, Carmen Costello; nephew Ryley; nieces Emily, Elise; mother and father in-law, Don and Hazel Gaston; grandparents, Patrick and Agnes O’Gorman, Frank and Helena Costello; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Amy’s family and friends. The Gaskins were our neighbors while they lived in Scotia. Christie joined Kevin, Nathan, Brian, Cody, Kelly, and Laura while Amy taught school. We have fond memories of the time we spent together. Cling unto your faith and each other as you continue on your journey. Hold your precious memories close to your hearts♥️. As time goes on they become more treasured.

Amy, or Mrs. Gaston, as I knew her, got me into public speaking as the coach of our team at Milford High School. My love of speech in high school eventually led to me studying Communication for my undergraduate and graduate degrees and then teaching and coaching speech at the collegiate level for years. I will always remember Amy’s warm encouragement!!

My sister was the funnest person to be around! Her and I would go to the farmers market looking at which tomato would be bought that day! I would then drive around for hours looking at old buildings because she hated the new buildings come up in downtown. My sister was an old soul who loved planting flowers, going to musicals with me and going to the dog park with our dogs! I will miss her deeply every day and I can’t imagine life without her! She was my best friend, counselor and the best sister anyone could ask for! How I can go to a Husker volleyball game without her is beyond me! I will love you forever and a day, Aim! I’m so grateful you are not in any more pain! ❤️

– You biggest admirer, Sue❤️
